Email sent to various Kennel Clubs:
Dear Sir/Madam:
I would like to get a dog. It's been many years since I last owned a
dog.
I'd like to get a dog that's least prone to hump my leg. I entertain
guests on most evenings and don't want the dog engaging in this kind of
distasteful behavior. What breed would be best for me?
I've done quite a bit of research on dogs. I've seen lists of dogs
most prone to bite. And I know that the Basenji is the only breed that
doesn't bark. So, is there any breed that won't hump someone's leg? Or
one that is less likely than other breeds to hump. I would also prefer
a kind of dog that is less likely to sniff at people's crotches as well
since this can be rather embarrassing when you have company over. I
would assume that breeds like Bloodhounds and Bassets (since they have a
strong sense of smell) would be most likely to stick their noses in
people's nether regions. So Bloodhounds and Bassets would definitely be
out of the question for me.
Can you recommend a breed of dog that won't hump legs or sniff at
people's crotches?
Sincerely,
Mrs. Helen Lowe
Response from The American Kennel Club:
Dear Helen,
Thank you for contacting the American Kennel Club. We do not have
information that matches a breed to a specific lifestyle or individuals. I
am not aware of any breed of dog that is not capable of exhibiting this
type of behavior.
Thank you,
